St. Luke's is a congregation whose mission is focused in Outreach Ministries.  In reaching out to others, we discover meaning and purpose to our own lives.

The following list captures just a glimpse of the many ministries that St. Luke's supports and participates in.

Congregational Ministries

Key programs which St. Luke's hosts or coordinates:

  • Charlie Brown Christmas Tree
An annual event where church members take a paper ornament (with a gift request from a needy family) from a very sad looking Christmas tree.  The Charlie Brown Tree is later replenished and surrounded by gifts which will be given to several needy families for Christmas.

  • The Drop-in-Center
Truly a shining star in our ministries!
St. Luke's Drop-in-Center has been ministering to the mentally ill in our community for more than 10 years.  The third Saturday of each month, volunteers and mentally ill friends gather for lunch and social encouragement.

  • Loaves and Fishes
Food Pantry Ministry supported by regional churches and businesses.  Loaves and Fishes provides thousands of meals each year to people in need.  St. Luke's houses their executive offices.

  • Red Hat Society
"The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve humor and élan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next."

  • St. Luke's Cloggers
St. Luke's Cloggers is a ministry of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. We have been in existence since 1980 and have members of varying ages and religion. We provide lessons at no charge to promote clogging as a social activity.

  • Helping Hearts - Creche
    The Crèche provides
children and families services which help with basic survival needs.
A Crèche is a combination health center, preschool, childcare, and
head start program, for children 2 to 5 years old. In addition, it provides basic health education and literacy classes for their families. With the little ones safe and looked after, parents can work, worry free, and older siblings are able to attend school. Clothing aid is also provided. The community interest and support of the Crèche is high and parents are active learners in the seminars. All is not so serious at the
Crèche as the children learn songs, dances, games, are read to and told stories, they love artwork and rhymes. Older children are taught their letters and how to write their own names which frees them from the stigma of the thumbprint signature. Children from Hindu, Muslim, and Christian families play, grow, and learn together.
