Outreach Ministries

·      Drop-In Center

Truly a shining star in our ministries!

St. Luke's began this ministry over 19 years ago.  On the third       Saturday of each month, mentally ill friends gather for lunch and social encouragement.  Those attending have to have a referral.

·      Room in the Inn

St. Luke's has been involved in this program for the homeless for more than 20 years.  The program is administered by the Urban Ministry Center, and St. Luke's participates on Sunday nights during December, January, February and March. St. Luke's provides for 12 neighbors, a safe place to sleep, a meal, and an opportunity to shower and to have their laundry done.

·      Mission Possible

Mission Possible is a prison newsletter ministry.  Some support for this outreach comes from Men in Mission.

·      Loaves & Fishes

This ministry is supported by regional churches and businesses.  They provide thousands of meals each year to people in need.  St. Luke's houses their administrative offices and encourages donations throughout the year.

·      CROP Walk

St. Luke's participates in this October event to raise money to fight hunger locally and worldwide.  Money raised in Charlotte is divided among Loaves & Fishes, Crisis Assistance Ministry, and Second Harvest Food Bank.

·      Habitat for Humanity

In 2009 Lutheran Churches in Charlotte built two houses for Habitat.  Donations   and direct participation were encouraged.  Approximately 30 people worked on this project

·      Charlie Brown Christmas Tree

Church members take an ornament (with a gift request) from the tree and return the gift to be distributed to people who might not otherwise be remembered at Christmas

·      Offering of the Coats

Each fall, St. Luke's has an Offering of the coats.  New or gently used coats are presented as offerings and distributed to those who need them.

·      Red Cross

St. Luke's encourages members to donate blood and has designated weekends which serve as reminders.

·      Samaritan House

Samaritan House serves homeless people who have just been released from the hospital.  St. Luke's collects paper goods to help with this ministry.

·      School Supplies for Savannah Woods

In the late summer, school supplies are collected for and distributed to the school- age residents of Savannah Woods.

·      St. Luke's Cloggers

The Cloggers have been in existence since 1980.  They practice at St. Luke's and perform at nursing homes and for other groups.

·      Suzanne Fund

The Suzanne Fund provides assistance for those members seeking mental health counseling.

·      Many other outreach ministries are accomplished by our Women's Circles (3) and   Men in Mission.  Through their various projects, support is given on a local and international level.  Examples include Crisis Assistance Ministry, Second Harvest Food Bank, Lutheran Family Services Group Homes, St. Luke's Men in Mission   Orphanage in India, A Child's Place, local schools, Operation Christmas Child, etc. Where there's a need, St. Luke's members are willing to serve
